Baby Bumblebee

Baby Bumblebee is a nursery rhyme which is a fun new version of a traditional folk song that comes with fun hand motion actions.

The melody is based on “The Arkansas Traveler”, a song written in 1847 by Colonel Sandford C. “Sandy” Faulkner. There have been several versions of the lyrics, including Baby Bumblebee. Sandy Faulkner was a fiddler, and the traditional version sounds quite different from the nursery rhyme. Arkansas used the melody for its state song from 1947 to 1963.

Baby Bumblebee is sung in a number of countries around the world, but the precise wording can differ. The essence of the story remains the same, tells the tale of a child who attempts to catch a bumblebee in their hands.

Like other nursery rhymes such as Itsy Bitsy Spider, Baby Bumblebee has a full complement of hand movements to accompany the lyrics. This makes the nursery rhyme a great choice for group activities such as toddler groups, Rainbows, and so on.

Baby Bumblebee Lyrics

I’m bringing home a baby bumblebee,
Won’t my mommy be so proud of me,
I’m bringing home a baby bumblebee,
Ouch! He stung me!

I’m squishing up a baby bumblebee,
Won’t my mommy be so proud of me,
I’m squishing up a baby bumblebee,
Eww! He’s gooey!

I’m lickin’ up a baby bumble bee
Won’t my Mommy be so proud of me
I’m lickin’ up my baby bumble bee
Mmm! He’s yummy!
