Little Bunny Foo Foo

Little Bunny Foo Foo takes its melody from the 1948 song Down By The Station by Tommy Dorsey and the French-Canadian nursery rhyme, Alouette. The well-known nursery rhyme Itsy Bitsy Spider is also sung to the same tune.

The nursery rhyme has several versions with slightly different names. Some know this as Little Rabbit Foo Foo, while others know it as Little Bunny Phoo Phoo. There are also other variants in circulation too.

Michael Rosen, the 6th British Children’s Laureate, released a book with the story of Rabbit Foo Foo, a firm bedtime favorite among many children.

Although there are differences in the spelling of the name, the story generally remains unchanged. The only exception is that in some places, the rabbit doesn’t “bop” the field mice on the head but kisses them instead.

In the nursery rhyme, the rabbit fails to take notice of the warnings that that good fairy gives them. The word “foo-foo” means ninny, so the silly actions of the rabbit should come as a little surprise!

Little Bunny Foo Foo Lyrics

Little Bunny Foo Foo
Hopping through the forest,
Scooping up the field mice
And bopping them on the head.
And down, down, down came the Good Fairy, and said:
“Little Bunny Foo Foo
I don’t want to see you
Scooping up the field mice
And bopping them on the head.
I’m going to give you three chances,
And if you don’t behave,
And then, I’m going to turn you into a…GOOOOOON!”
Little Bunny Foo Foo
Hopping through the forest,
Scooping up the field mice
And bopping them on the head.
And down, down, down came the Good Fairy, and said:
“Little Bunny Foo Foo
I don’t want to see you
Scooping up the field mice
And bopping them on the head.
I’m going to give you two more chances,
And if you don’t behave,
And then, I am going to turn you into a…GOOOOOON!”
Little Bunny Foo Foo
Hopping through the forest,
Scooping up the field mice
And bopping them on the head.
And down, down, down came the Good Fairy, and said:
“Little Bunny Foo Foo
I don’t like your attitude
Scooping up the field mice
And bopping them on the head.
I’m going to give you one more chance,
And if you don’t behave,
And then, I am definitely going to turn you into a…GOOOOOON!
And it won’t be pretty!”
Little Bunny Foo Foo
Hopping through the forest,
Scooping up the field mice
And bopping them on the head.
“That’s it.”
Then the Good Fairy came down,
And then she turned Little Bunny Foo Foo into a…GOOOOOON!
And the moral of the story is:
“HARE TODAY, GOON TOMORROW”.
